My Mum just got home from Sydney (she and Grandma went to see Andre Rieu) with my Mulholland Drive essay.
I got 85, a HD! My first major research essay for film (on a really complex film film, at that) and I got a HD! AHHH!
And, the part that I'm really really happy about, I think the final comment is the most fulfilling I've ever received about my work:
Stella, very good essay - the reading is detailed and insightful. Your writing style is elegant and uncomplicated. You capture the complexity of the film (its structure & style) and its difficulty (iconography of love & death). You have used the research and integrated lecture and class discussion into your own analysis. This kind of synthesis is an important dimension of criticism. 85/100
"Elegant and uncomplicated". "Detailed and insightful". That's how I always want my essays to be, and it's so good to know I'm doing it.
I knew I loved film studies, but this is the first real sign that I'm actually really good at the academic side of it. Honours might happen! I'm just, so excited, and so proud of myself!
